Research and innovation

Our position

University research drives innovation, strengthens the economy and improves quality of life for all Canadians. Investing in university research at all levels is vital for a nation’s long-term growth and prosperity.

To advance Canada’s position as a global leader in research excellence, we ask the federal government to commit to:

  • Long-term, sustained research funding for the base budgets of the federal research granting councils
  • Investments in early-career researchers
  • Enhanced support for international research collaboration in order to increase Canada’s global standing as a valued research partner

“Breakthroughs happen when brilliant minds are given the freedom to probe the nooks and crannies of reality – when exceptional people ask fundamental questions about the deepest problems and make extraordinary discoveries that benefit us all.”
