Payroll and Benefits Coordinator

We are currently looking for a bilingual payroll and benefit coordinator who will work closely with the payroll specialist to deliver payroll services and provide benefits administration support to Universities Canada employees and to our 30 outside organization payroll clients. The incumbent will also act as a back-up for the payroll specialist during absences.

We’re looking for a team player, someone who can delve into strategy and still flex your creative muscles while always being happy to roll up your sleeves and pitch in where help is needed. You will not be in this alone; you will draw on the strengths and expertise of our team as well as others throughout the organization who have contributed to the ongoing success as the voice for Canadian universities.

If you are right for this opportunity, you will possess the education and experience listed below:

Education, experience and knowledge

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field and two years of prior relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingualism is essential, including English writing skills and verbal communication skills in both official languages.
  • Payroll compliance practitioner certification (PCP), an asset.
  • Knowledge of payroll process and employment regulations.
  • Understanding of benefit administration processes.
  • Knowledge of a payroll management system such as Dayforce, an asset.
  • Prior experience working in a not-for-profit organization, an asset.

Abilities

  • You are a self starter, take initiative and have a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • You have a high degree of tact and strong interpersonal and customer relations skills.
  • Comfort with numbers.
  • Prior experience with month-end reconciliation, an asset.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive situations and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong administrative, organizational and analytical skills.

The position is based in Ottawa.  We are working remotely during COVID-19 and expect to be working remotely until April 2022 when we will transition to a hybrid work model. Though we cannot wait to meet our new teammate in person, we can offer a robust and welcoming virtual onboarding experience in the meantime!

The hiring salary range for this position is from $54,645 to $64,037 depending on experience.  Candidates who do not meet all of the position requirements may be considered in an underfill capacity, in which case the candidate would be hired at a lower level than the position level.

As one of Canada’s premier advocacy organizations, we are seeking an accomplished, bilingual, results-oriented leader to join our team as the Vice-President, Communications and Member Relations.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will use your superior leadership and strategic communications skills to oversee and lead the communications, member relations, publications and University Affairs teams in achieving their mandates.

As a member of the Senior Management Committee, you will contribute to setting the strategic direction of the organization, developing management policies and evaluating progress on organization wide priorities and supporting the values of the organization. You will work in tandem with the Vice-President, Policy and Government Relations to advance our mission.

Your responsibilities: 

You will be responsible for advising and counselling senior management, Board and other members, key representatives within the membership, and staff on matters of national brand thought leadership, reputation, risk and issues management, crisis communications as well as media and public relations. This includes strategic planning, overseeing, coordinating, and implementing a broad range of activities that promote Canadian higher education, research and innovation, and position Universities Canada, with key national and international audiences.

  • Develop Universities Canada’s communications strategies and tactics to achieve results for Canada’s universities;
  • cultivate relationships and execute communications strategies and stakeholder engagement at the most senior levels of member relations and allied stakeholder groups;
  • counsel organization, Board members and key representatives within the membership on matters of national brand, risk and issues management and crisis communications.

The ideal person for this role is: 

  • a strategic, politically astute, bilingual (FR/EN) communications professional with 10+ years of progressive experience and success, including managing teams;
  • tenacious and can easily translate ideas and strategies into concrete plans and action to achieve desired outcomes;
  • diplomatic in responding to internal and external clients and audiences;
  • an adaptable coach who can manage people, projects and budgets.

Your skills and abilities include: 

  • a deep understanding of stakeholder engagement, communications, marketing, client service and business development best practices;
  • a capacity to work at the senior levels of the university sector, media and other pertinent groups and members of the public;
  • experience delivering a broad range of communications activities such as digital and print publications, storytelling and brand journalism, public relations events, multi-media advocacy campaigns with a strong public and political narrative;
  • a sense of initiative and ability to work independently;
  • knowledge of and experience leading strategic communications in a digital environment;
  • excellent English writing and editing skills;
  • French oral communications skills;
  • thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment;
  • holding a master’s degree, preferably in communications, public affairs/relations, journalism or a related discipline;
  • experienced in building high performing and empowered teams.

Program Officer Team Lead
RBC Scholarships

 (Term position until March 2024)

We are currently looking for a bilingual program officer team lead who will be responsible for a range of activities to support the delivery of the national domestic scholarship programs for The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) which include the RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Indigenous Youth, the RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Black Youth, the RBC Scholarship Program of the Children of RBC Employees and the RBC Future Launch Scholarship.

You will oversee the RBC Scholarship program team (two full-time staff) and collaborate with your team members and partners to support program monitoring and evaluation, financial disbursements and advisory group meetings. You will not be in this alone; you will draw on the strengths and expertise of our team as well as others throughout the organization who have contributed to the ongoing success as the voice for Canadian universities.

  • Three years of prior relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prior experience managing funded programs an asset.

Abilities

  • You are a self starter, take initiative and have a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • You have a high degree of tact and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong administrative and financial reporting skills.
  • Good capacity to liaise with and manage multiple external clients.
  • Strong computer skills including prior experience working with databases and reporting.
