Program Specialist, Alumni Relations and Events

(two-year term position)

We are currently recruiting a Program Specialist to be responsible for leading and implementing effective alumni relations and networking strategies, products and events for large-scale scholarship and international mobility programs including but not limited to the Global Skills Opportunity program (GSO) and the Canadian International Development Scholarship 2030 program (BCDI2030).

The incumbent is responsible for creating, leading and implementing high-level strategic alumni relations and events plans.  They will oversee implementation of technical tools and methods to promote networking activities amongst both past and present program beneficiaries and implement strategies that support professional integration of program beneficiaries post-program.  They are responsible for implementing and overseeing exchange forms, meetings and/or other activities supporting the alumni relations and events strategies and annual programming.

Working with a cross-organizational team between Universities Canada and Colleges and Institutes Canada, the incumbent will play a leadership and consulting role with member institutions, partner organizations and alumni.

Education and experience

  • A relevant university degree, preferably in the humanities, social sciences, communications or related discipline.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in the preparation of strategic plans, events management and budget projections.
  • International development work experience, especially in Africa, an asset.

Knowledge

  • Good knowledge of Canadian education institutions and programs.
  • Knowledge of international affairs and global issues.

Abilities/Qualities

  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills in both official languages.
  • Strong administrative, organizational and financial management skills.
  • Good capacity to liaise and manage multiple external clients and multiple contracts.
  • Ability to work under pressure while balancing competing priorities.
  • High degree of discretion and insight.

The position is based in Ottawa. Universities Canada has adopted a hybrid work model where employees are expected to work in the office a minimum of two (2) days per week.  

The hiring salary range for this position is from $71,644 to $85,101 depending on experience.  Candidates who do not meet all of the position requirements may be considered in an underfill capacity, in which case the candidate would be hired at a lower level than the position level.
