Biography

Heather Cayouette joined Universities Canada in 2014, in leadership roles within the partnerships and programs team. In these roles, she developed a keen interest in the effect information flow has on a business, in the importance of information privacy and in ways of leveraging technology to drive results.

In 2018, Heather changed focus and led the development and implementation of a transformative information management strategy, which included the introduction and adoption of new technology, policies, and new ways of working. As director, Heather oversees the organization’s privacy, security and IT functions. Most recently, Heather has also taken on oversight of Universities Canada’s governance and member relations team.

Heather serves as Universities Canada’s corporate secretary, privacy officer, and is a member of the senior management committee.

Prior to Universities Canada, Heather worked for the Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies (ACUNS) where she was responsible for the general operations of the association including the management and development of a large scholarship program. Heather also owned a small business for ten years.

Heather is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/C), Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) and member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). She holds a bachelor of arts degree (psychology) from Western University and recently completed the community shift program from Ivey Business School.
