CIRMMT: Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (Director Dr Isabelle Cossette). The CIRMMT community is interested in research that spans a wide range of topics from the creation of music in the composer’s or performer’s mind, the performance of music, its recording and/or transmission, and the reception of music by the listener. It is also interested in the ways in which vision, haptics, and touch interact with music and sound.
Systems, Technologies and Applications for Radiofrequency and Communications_ STARaCom drives collaborative Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) systems research in Quebec. This is an interuniversity research center grouping 50 professors and 500 researchers from 10 universities in the province of Quebec.
Haptic Wearables led by Dr Jeremy Cooperstock is to explore the design of wearable haptics as an interaction paradigm in everyday conditions. This requires wireless devices that can be attached to the body or inserted into regular clothing, capable of sensing human input and delivering richly expressive output to the wearer.
Advanced manufacturing of InN/Si nanowire tunnelling transistors for energy efficient electronics led by Dr Thomas Szkopek. The implications of the unprecedented quantities of energy consumed by computing infrastructure are of growing concern, motivating the semiconductor community to seek out energy efficient alternatives. The project addresses the problem by the development of a scalable advanced manufacturing process for low-voltage InN/Si tunnelling field effect transistors (TFETs).
Warren Gross, Prof. and Louis-Ho Faculty Scholar in Technological Innovation. Research interests are in the design and implementation of signal processing systems and custom computer architectures.
Fabrice Labeau, Prof. and NSERC/Hydro-Québec Industrial Research Chair in Interactive Information Infrastructure for the Power Grid. His research interests are in applications of signal processing to healthcare, power grids, communications and signal compression.
Odile Liboiron-Ladouceur, Associate Prof. and Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Photonic Interconnects, Premio Venezia award. She is working on the development of device integration and interconnection architectures that use photonic (or optical) technologies.
David Plant, Prof. and Scientific Director of STARaCom. He received NSERC Synergy Award for Innovation and the R.A. Fessenden Medal from IEEE Canada. Research focuses on optical interconnects that operate over distances of centimeters and meters and that target improvements in bandwidth, power consumption, miniaturization, and switching speed.
