Principales installations

The Explosives Test Site is the best equipped Explosives Test Facility in Canada, including a bunker equipped with various cameras, oscilloscopes, monitors, and other data acquisition systems.

The Microwave Extraction Laboratory is concerned with the application of new energy sources for the recovery and recycling of metals with the use of plasmas and microwaves in extractive metallurgy.

Mine Ventilation aboratory offers the ability to introduce principles and experimental techniques in occupational health and mine ventilation.

The Mineral Processsing Laboratory includes: sample preparation room, physical and chemical mineral concentration, ferrous and non-ferrous metals and precious metals extraction, wet chemical and instrumental chemical analysis, and gold fire assay.

The Kostuik Mine-Mechanical and Mining Systems Laboratories provide students with exposure to state-of-the-art techniques and tools for the maintenance, design, mechanization, and automation of mining equipment and processes.

Chercheurs

Dr. Joshua Marshall, Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining, focuses on the development and application of methods for perception, modelling, and control of mining equipment and processes.

Dr. Julian Ortiz, Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining, conducts research related to geostatistics, stochastic modelling of ore deposits, sampling and QA QC, and geometallurgical modelling.

Dr. D. Jean Hutchinson, Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, specializes in rock engineering, site characterization and risk management for mining and transportation infrastructure, with a focus on landslide hazards.

Dr. Mark Diederichs, Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, specializes in underground rock mechanics issues including damage zone development around tunnels, and long term stability of caverns and shafts related to nuclear waste repositories.

Dr. Heather Jamieson, Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, has expertise is in the area of environmental geochemistry, with particular focus on the Canadian Arctic.
