Medicine by Design

Supported by a Canada First Research Excellence Fund grant, this multidisciplinary research initiative harnesses the exceptional expertise at the University of Toronto and its affiliated hospitals to undertake transformative research in regenerative medicine and cell therapy.

Ted Rogers Centre for Health Research

Born from the largest private health-care gift in Canadian history, the Ted Rogers Centre’s core strengths are its three world-renowned institutional partners, The Hospital for Sick Children, University Health Network, and U of T. There, interconnected programs aim to address heart failure across the lifespan: Precision Medicine and Cardiac Genome Clinic; Integrated Program for Excellence in Heart Function; and Translational Biology and Engineering Program.

The Canadian Food Supply

Studies the Canadian food supply in order to better understand the overall nutritional quality of foods available in Canada and, in turn, provide evidence-based recommendations to guide Canadian nutrition policy development, implementation and evaluation.

Patrick Gunning, Canada Research Chair in Medicinal Chemistry – Research focuses on understanding and developing inhibitors of proteins that drive the most rare and lethal of human cancers, including glioblastoma, acute myeloid leukemia, multiple myeloma, and refractory medulloblastoma.

Molly Shoichet, Canada Research Chair in Tissue Engineering – Research focuses on regenerating brain and nerve tissue to repair, replace or restore lost function due to spinal cord injury, stroke, blindness, and cancer.

Arjumand Siddiqi, Canada Research Chair in Population Health Equity – Research focuses on resource inequities and social policies, the methods and metrics that enable scientific inquiry on health inequities, and mechanisms related to public and political uptake of evidence.

Sharon Straus, Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Translation and Quality of Care – Research focuses on advancing the science and practice of knowledge translation by providing a unique model that nurtures collaboration among researchers and trainees in various fields in Canada.

Programmes spéciaux et apprentissage intégré au travail

Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Mentorship Program pairs students with faculty with the aim of facilitate career planning and opportunities to leverage professional relationships to foster internship, summer research and/or other connections.

Master of Health Science in Translational Research This two-year masters program is designed to provide students with the skills for iterative (repeated and process driven) interdisciplinary problem solving to help them integrate knowledge and skills, to propose, refine, and execute translational research projects.
