Research matters to Canada and to Canadians.

This message features prominently in the federal government’s Budget 2018, which contains historic, multi-year investments in Canada’s science and research ecosystem.

Canadian research improves quality of life for Canadians, strengthens our economy and advances our place in the world. Budget 2018 investments will help ensure a bright future for Canada’s research enterprise and the benefits it brings to Canadians.

Canada’s research community thanks the Government of Canada — including Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan, Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — for their leadership in delivering a budget that invests in a robust research system for years to come.

Budget 2018 rightfully acknowledges the contribution of the Fundamental Science Review Panel*, led by Dr. David Naylor, in informing the government’s vision for a more streamlined, multidisciplinary and equitable research ecosystem that reflects the diversity of Canada.

Canada’s research community has worked actively and collaboratively to encourage investments that reflect the recommendations of this panel. We see many benefits from our increased alignment over the past year and commit to ongoing connection and collaboration to ensure that Canada’s best minds are well-supported in doing their best work.
