Universities Canada congratulates new and returning MPs

Statement
OTTAWA – Canada’s universities congratulate Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau and the country’s 338 newly elected Members of Parliament.
“Universities Canada salutes all Parliamentarians who have chosen a life of public service, and thanks all candidates for their participation in the democratic process,” says President Paul Davidson. “We look forward to working with the new government and all Members of Parliament to advance dialogue and action on higher education, research and innovation – issues important to Canada’s future economic and social success.”
Universities Canada, as the voice of Canada’s 97 universities, contributes to developing federal public policy in areas such as research and innovation, Indigenous education, experiential learning and international education. The association works with the federal government, the private sector and community organizations to encourage collaboration and investment in higher education and research.
Together we can build prosperous communities and a stronger Canada, one that equips all students to achieve their potential and unleashes our researchers’ capacity for breakthrough discoveries.
