Inventor of over 100 patents 

A world-class researcher and exceptional Queen’s University professor, Praveen Jain has been awarded the 2023 Killam Prize in Engineering for his work in the field of power electronics and his contributions in high-frequency power conversion technology. Inventor of over 100 patents, his contributions have been used in telecommunications, space, computer design, induction melting and renewable energy industries, revolutionizing power electronics. 

Tackling affordability, climate and seniors’ care 

Simon Fraser University’s new Housing Solutions Lab aims to support older homeowners interested in home-sharing, while also addressing housing affordability, offering options for aging in place and benefiting the climate. The initiative also aims to foster relationships among residents to reduce social isolation and support economic inclusion and wellbeing. 

Developing socially responsible technologies 

“The Connected Minds Program envisions a world where breakthroughs in technology act as equalizers, creating a fair, just and healthy society for all.” This seven-year research initiative at York University seeks to co-create socially responsible research which benefits society as a whole, locally and globally, while mitigating the negative outcomes, such as potential pitfalls around artificial intelligence—such as ChatGPT—and the growing digital divide between underrepresented communities and other parts of society.
