Biarki Hallgrimsson, director of the School of Industrial Design at Carleton University:

This starts with the future leaders. And if we start by educating the engineers, architects, industrial designers, social scientists and policy makers of the future, it raises the whole awareness of how important accessibility is.

And so, this is a kind of a mindset, and by having this competition we really can elevate that mindset.

Biarki Hallgrimsson, director of the School of Industrial Design at Carleton University, believes that making Canadian communities more accessible starts with educating our future leaders across sectors – from engineers to architects to policy makers. He views the IDeA program as an opportunity to change the mindsets of student competitors and raise awareness about the importance of accessibility in Canada.
