The University of Victoria houses the largest transgender archives in the world
The University of Victoria Libraries are home to the largest archive of transgender publications and memorabilia in the world. The founder and academic advisor of the Transgender Archives, Dr. Aaron Devor, is the University of Victoria Research Chair in Transgender Studies.
Actively acquiring materials since 2007, the Archives are home to materials that span 120 years of history on activists, community leaders, and researchers who have contributed to the betterment of trans, non-binary, and Two-Spirit people. Laid out, these documents span 1.5 football fields.
The Archives also feature a reading room, classroom, and exhibition space to allow the public to engage with the materials. Many of the archival documents are available online, and everyone is welcome to visit the physical space at no change.
