Global Excellence Initiative
Promoting Canada’s top research talent
Launched in 2012 by former Governor General of Canada David Johnston, the Global Excellence Initiative promotes the recognition of Canadian research talent on the international stage by identifying and offering assistance to meritorious candidates for prestigious national and international awards.
Universities Canada has managed the initiative since October 1, 2017.
Universities Canada’s support for universities, hospitals, research institutes and corporate and government laboratories to raise the profile of their top researchers, also includes:
- Offering two up-to-date inventories of prestigious national and international research awards;
- Supporting organizations in building compelling dossiers on their candidates during the application process for research awards;
- Coordinating external reviews of candidates’ nomination dossiers; and
- Proposing a path to success for researchers.
