Who can nominate a student for the IDeA Student Competition?
Any Canadian university faculty or staff can nominate a student from their institution. The student must be enrolled at the institution when the competition opened on November 7, 2019.
I’m graduating this year, can I still submit a project for the IDeA Student Competition?
Yes, you are eligible for the IDeA Student Competition as long as you were a student at a recognized Canadian university when the competition opened on November 1st, 2018.
We need inspiration! Can we see examples of past winning ideas?
Yes, you can access a list of finalists from the Ontario version of IDeA on the Accessible Campus website created by the Council of Ontario Universities.
I have a great project that I developed as part of my course work. Can I submit this?
Absolutely, ideas at different stages of development are welcome.
My idea addresses one of the accessibility barriers listed, but it was designed for a specific person/need, rather than a general need. Is my project eligible?
Yes, all projects that address accessibility issues are welcome. Often, solutions for an accessibility issues meant for one individual can be adapted to make communities more accessible for a larger number of people.
I came up with an awesome idea, but I’m not sure if I can commercialize it. Should I still submit my idea?
Of course! As long as your idea addresses an accessibility issue, it has the potential to win.

Universities Canada will respond to all inquiries emailed to [email protected]. The responses to all inquiries received between the opening and the closing of the competition will be published on the FAQ page on a weekly basis. The last update to the FAQ page was on November 5, 2019.
