In particular, research centres around the challenges associated with robots—such as self-driving and self-flying vehicles—operating in increasingly unstructured, uncertain and changing environments.
Electric Vehicle Power Electronics aims to advance power electronics for electric vehicle (EV) drivetrains, charging infrastructure, and energy storage. The overall goals are to improve EV driving range through enhanced efficiency, reduce high costs associated with an EV’s battery system through better energy utilization, and reduce charging times and improve access to charging facilities by lowering costs.
Tim Barfoot, Canada Research Chair in Autonomous Space Robotics –Research focuses on advancing the visual navigation capability of mobile robots for use in transportation, planetary exploration, mining, warehouses, and military scenarios.
Birsen Donmez, Canada Research Chair in Human Factors and Transportation – Research focuses on supporting driver-automation and coordination in high information-access environments (intelligent mobility).
Matthew Roorda, Canada Research Chair in Freight Transportation and Logistics – Research focuses on urban freight data and modelling, freight optimization, and passenger transportation analysis.
